Ozwater 22

Our first expo at Ozwater was one to remember! from being fortunate enough as a business to be successful without the need to advertise has been a great advantage to us over the years.

That said, now that we are focusing on a new game with a new technology to the country, we have welcomed the opportunity to learn how to push new technologies to the right sectors to offer new and exciting additions to utility operators tool kits to maintain their assets with environmentally friendly practices, offering reduced carbon footprints, lesser impacts to customers and communities and offering fast returns to service.

This is what Ozwater 22 was all about for us, and it was great to be able to have presentations held on the trial we had recently completed for Urban Utilities and Downer for all of the attendees at the event to see. From never needing to market our capabilities, to seeing our team on the big screen at one of the most exclusive events in the water industry was a great feeling to all of us involved and a huge moment for our team.

We are excited to see what the future holds for spray lining in Australia and glad to be at the forefront of it in our home country.

Urban Utilities, Downer & WPS Australian first Resiline 320 trial, April 2022

In april 2022 after months of meetings and benchtop testing with Urban Utilites and Downer a suitable site was selected for an Australian first trial of Resiline 320.

The section of main to be rehabilitated was a 90m length of 100mm AC water main that was nearing the end of its serviceable life and experiencing some bursts. The decision was made to use Resiline 320 to spray line the 90m section using 2 excavations. Preparations for the project began on the 5th of April, the main was shutdown, cleaned and relined and put back into service on the 6th of April and the reinstatement works were carried out on the 7th of April.

The application was successful and the asset received an operational life extension with a same day return to service. WPS are grateful for the opportunity with UU and Downer and look forward to more projects like this in the future.

WPS transitions to RESILINE 320

Recent research has resulted in a transition for WPS for our choice in product for relining water mains. After much thought and discussion, we have made the decision to switch to a third generation aliphatic polyurea manufactured by RESIMAC LTD in the UK. The product - RESILINE 320 is now an Australian approved product for use in potable water mains, carrying the AS/NZS4020:2018 approval along with being a certified NSF product, we are excited to move forward into the future using this product to further advance the rehabilitation sector within Australia.

Showing increases of up to 61% in tensile strength and up to 84% in tensile creep and flexural creep rupture strength was a clear deciding factor in our decision to make the transition.

Resiline 320 is a BPA & VOC free product with a team of chemists with a decorated history within this industry, that ensures WPS that quality and confidence has played a major role in the design of this product, which gives us at WPS the confidence to apply a product that is fit for purpose and will ensure our name is a staple within the industry, by only applying the highest quality materials to rehabilitate existing assets in-situ.

WPS are looking forward to progressing forward with RESILINE and forging a strong relationship as key applicators within our industry.

Bursting water mains.

If you keep an eye on the news, it’s more than likely you have seen an article or story on a water main that has burst, causing either an eruption of water, or possibly a large sink hole in the vicinity of the burst.

This is a regular occurrence on ageing infrastructure. It applies to almost anything, not just water pipes. Everything has an estimated lifespan.

What we at WPS have been working towards, is extending said lifespan by up to 50 years of exisiting pipelines in the ground. Reducing burst rates substantially and reducing the need to revert to traditional and costly methods of lift and lay when pipes are failing.

Our methods are faster, cheaper and drastically reduce impacts on local community and environment . We can reline up to 170 meters of pipe in one single pass, one of the major benefits of our method is when we reline, we do not block service connections. This allows us to reduce our excavations by significant amounts and allows us to work from only 2 excavations.

The product we use for this is a rapid setting 2 part polyurethane resin that is touch dry within 30 seconds of application, allowing us to have water supply reinstated to the customer within 1 hour of relining completion. When working on a vital and precious commodity like water, WPS see a fast turn around as a must!
